Solar + Lithium Battery: A self-rechargeable battery for mobile phones?

The solar cells we used to know are the energy that is absorbed by the solar panels and then saved into the battery. Now researchers use molecular technology to combine solar cells with lithium-ion batteries to develop a technology called "photo-assisted rechargeable batteries."

Researchers from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and Canadian energy company Hydro-Quebec conducted the study.

Although the research is still in its early stages and stays in the laboratory, the research team hopes to create a “hybrid solar cell system”. According to team leader Andrea Paolella, the research will be the first to be applied to small devices such as smartphones.

As for the working principle of this new battery technology, it is actually more complicated.

The researchers did not pass the hybrid battery system and used a new type of chemicals and materials to make the battery. And the performance of the battery is tested by a special solar simulator to simulate solar energy. According to the test results, the solar energy can generate a certain amount of energy by irradiating the back body, and the scientists hope to continue the next stage and use the anode technology in the battery to perfect.

This is not the whole of this research. It is also a problem for the packaging materials of this battery and how to improve the conversion rate of light.
